Cadance 4 introduces a new pricing model designed around how teachers actually work: Day Passes. Instead of committing to a monthly subscription, you now pay only for the days you teach.
What is a Day Pass?
One Day Pass = one full calendar day of unrestricted Patron-level access to Cadance. Day Passes never expire — they sit in your account until you activate them. When you play a track past the 15-second preview threshold, a banner appears: "Activating Day Pass in 10s." You can cancel if you're just sampling music, or let it activate to unlock the full teaching day. Once activated, you have unrestricted access until midnight local time — no further prompts, no mid-class interruptions.
14 free Day Passes on signup
Every new install receives 14 non-expiring Day Passes as a welcome gift. For a once-a-week teacher, 14 passes last roughly 3.5 months. For a 2-day-per-week teacher, roughly 7 weeks. For a full-time 5-day teacher, roughly 3 weeks. This means new users can fully evaluate Cadance in a real teaching context before spending anything.
Day Pass purchase options
When you're ready to buy more passes, you have four pack options:
- Single: 1 pass for $1.99
- 5-pack: 5 passes for $7.99 ($1.60 per pass)
- 10-pack: 10 passes for $14.99 ($1.50 per pass)
- 20-pack: 20 passes for $24.99 ($1.25 per pass)
The 20-pack is intentionally priced at the same monthly cost as the Patron subscription, but because passes never expire, it represents several months of teaching for infrequent teachers.
The 10-second activation window
We know you might want to preview music without using a pass. When you play a track past 15 seconds, you'll see a countdown: "Activating Day Pass in 10s." You can tap "Don't use a pass" to cancel activation. If you cancel, playback enters "Preview Mode" where every track resets after 15 seconds — no passes are consumed. When you're ready to teach, you can manually activate from Settings → Day Passes → Activate a Day Pass Now.
Syncs across your devices
Day Passes sync across your iPhone and iPad via iCloud. Sign into the same iCloud account on both devices and your balance, activation status, and purchase history stay in sync automatically.
Why Day Passes?
Traditional subscriptions assume you teach the same number of days every month. But dance teachers don't work that way. Some teach once a week. Some teach seasonally. Some run studios with multiple instructors. Day Passes align pricing with reality: you pay only for the days you actually teach.
This also means no wasted months. If you subscribe to a monthly plan and take a month off, you're still paying. With Day Passes, you only activate them when you need them.
Subscriptions still available
If you prefer the simplicity of unlimited access, Cadance still offers three subscription tiers: Spark ($4.99/month), Artist ($12.99/month), and Patron ($24.99/month). Subscriptions are perfect for teachers who teach regularly and want to set it and forget it.
